PULASKI, Tenn. - The Trojan baseball team (29-22, 7-12 TranSouth) dropped a pair of games Thursday afternoon at Martin Methodist (21-26, 10-9 TranSouth), losing game one 8-2 and dropping the nightcap, 5-4 in nine innings. Unfortunately, the losses eliminate the Trojans from qualifying for the TranSouth Conference tournament next week in Paducah.

In game one, both teams scored a run in the first inning, and that's they way it stayed until the fifth. Unfortunately, six runs by the RedHawks in the bottom of the fifth inning put the game out of reach. The Trojans got one back in the top of the sixth, but MMC answered with another run in the bottom of the inning to conclude the scoring. Matt Tidwell extended his hitting streak to 12 games, going 2-4, and Brad Gooch went 2-3. But the RedHawks made much better use of their nine hits than the Trojans did, making a winner of Matt Fiser (4-5). B.J. Boston (3-2) took the loss for Trevecca, giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits in 4.2 innings, with two strikeouts and two walks.

The RedHawks drew first blood in the nightcap, scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning. But the Trojans jumped on top with four runs in the fourth inning, the big blow a 2-run single by Chase Birdwell. But the lead would be short-lived, as MMC tallied three times in thee bottom of the fifth inning to ultimately force extra innings. But the RedHawks plated the winning run in the bottom of the ninth on a leadoff walk, a sac bunt, and an RBI single.

Tidwell's 12-game hitting streak was snapped, as he went 0-5, but Birdwell was 2-4 with 2 RBI, and Trey Morrison, Kyle Pfirrman, and Edwin Borbon each added two hits apiece. Blake Payton (3-3) took the loss in relief for the Trojans, giving up the winning run in an otherwise effective performance. The junior righthander allowed just the one run on three hits in 4.1 innings, with six strikeouts and two walks. Travis Garcia (9-4) went the distance to earn the victory for the RedHawks.

The two teams conclude their series with a single game Friday at 1 p.m.
