DECATUR, Ala. - No. 17 Trevecca (44-17) advanced to the Championship Bracket (eight-team double-elimination tournament) for the fourth time in the last five years. Trevecca's softball program has reached the final eight team bracket in all four trips to the NAIA Championships.

Trevecca's first game in the Championship Bracket was a 3-1 loss to Shorter College on Monday (5/24) at 9 p.m. Trevecca was eliminated on Tuesday (5/25) 5-3 by No. 6 Belhaven (Miss.) College (54-9) at Noon.

Trevecca went 3-0 in Pool B to advance at the 30th Annual National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Softball National Championships. The tournament is being held May 20 - 26 Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, Ala.

Thursday (5/20) Trevecca defeated SCAD 13-3 while rains pushed Friday's play to Saturday. When Pool Play resumed, Trevecca defeated Notre Dame College 3-2 on Saturday (5/22). Trevecca swept Pool B play with a 7-6 win over No. 2 Lee on Monday (5/24) afternoon. .

There eight pools were composed of four teams each. Pool play took place on four fields May 20 - 24, with the pool winners advancing to an eight-team double-elimination bracket that will be played out May 24 - 26. The 2010 champion will be crowned on May 26.

2010 Trevecca NAIA Tournament Notes

Coach Ben Tyree at Trevecca
This is Coach Tyree's second season at Trevecca. He is the seventh coach in the program's history. He is the second Trojan coach to lead Trevecca to the NAIA Softball Championship. Ernie Reynolds led the team to the first three appearances in program history.

After a 21-19 record in his first season, he has led the team to a 44-17 record this year with a TranSouth regular season and tournament championship.

Prior to Trevecca he produced a 98-29 record in three seasons coaching at two area high schools. Tyree won more than 350 ASA games in his career.

At Trevecca he has produced a TranSouth player of the year and newcomer of the year. Eight of his players have made the TranSouth First Team and another two were selected to the TranSouth Second Team. Fourteen of his players have earned TranSouth Scholar-Athlete recognition and four have been selected as NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

2010 Record Home Run Season
Trevecca has launched a school record 71 home runs (59 games) this season. That is three better than the 67 (70 games) the 2007 team hit.
The 71 home runs are fifth best on the all-time NAIA list.
In addition to this year's 71 and the 2007 teams' 67, the 2006 team hit 62.
Trevecca is the only NAIA program with three 60+ home run seasons.
Monica West has hit a TranSouth leading 16 home runs this season which ranks her 3rd in Trevecca history.
Trevecca hit six home runs against Lambuth University this year, one short of the NAIA record for home runs in a single game. Trevecca hit a total of nine home runs in the double header.

Trevecca won their fifth TranSouth Regular Season title, all in the last six years. Only Union, with six regular season titles, has more.
Trevecca was picked to finish fifth in TranSouth Preseason Coaches Poll.

Ben Tyree was named TranSouth Coach of the Year. He is the third Trojan coach to earn the award. It is his first.

Trevecca had two 20-win pitchers in a season, Riley Mashburn (23) and Lauren Baker (21), for the first time.
Kelsey Lantrip set a Trevecca record with 36 walks this season. Lantrip ended her season just one walk way from a tie for seventh on the NAIA all-time list.

This was the fourth appearance for Trevecca at the NAIA Softball Championships. Trevecca has reached the eight-team Championship Bracket in all three of their previous trips to the NAIA Championships. Trevecca is 12-3 in Pool Play and 2-8 in Championship Bracket play.
