DECATUR, Ala. - The 17th-ranked Trojan softball team (44-15) defeated former TranSouth Conference rival, No. 2 Lee University (57-5) 7-6 in the final game of Pool B Play at the 30th Annual NAIA Softball National Tournament at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, Ala. With the win, Trevecca advances to the eight-team, double-elimination championship bracket to determine the 2010 NAIA champion.

The Trojans used a three-run bottom of the seventh to upset the No. 2 Flames.

Lee's Hernanza Ruiz hit the third pitch of the second inning over the left field fence to put the Flames up 1-0. LU wasn't through in the inning. Johana Goodlet, a batter later, reached on a walk and moved to second when Caitlin Haley followed with a single to shallow left-center. A sac-bunt and a walk followed to load the bases with one away. Savannah Bell drove in two with a double to deep left field, giving the No. 2 Flames a 3-0 lead.

The Trojans made it 3-2 Lee with a two-run bottom half of the second. Monica West singled through the hole at short. Anais Puertas did the same thing. Two batters later Lauren Baker doubled to deep left driving in West and Puertas.

With one out in the top of the third Lee loaded the bases when Goodlet was hit by a pitch, Haley singled, and Jenevieve Cena was hit by a pitch. An out later Bell singled scoring Goodlet and Haley for a 5-2 Lee lead.

In the top of the fifth the Flames struck for another run when Bell hit a two-out single. After a Taylor Horsman bunt single advanced Bell to second, she scored on a Johana Gomez single.

The Trojans made it a 6-4 game with a pair of runs in their half of the fifth inning. Melinda Patterson reached on a walk. The next two Trojans couldn't move Patterson along, but Kelsey Lantrip drove her home with a home run.

Breanna Zeis opened the bottom of the seventh with a single to left. Brittany Balough came in to pitch for Lee, relieving starter Johana Gomez. Brittany Balough proceeded to balk twice as she pitched to Patterson. Patterson eventually walked. Lee inserted Sara Mitchell (3-1) to pitch. A wild pitch advanced Patterson to second. Baker reached on a bobble scoring Zeis and Patterson to tie the game. Baker advanced to third on the error. Gomez came back in to pitch. Brooke Brennan hit a sacrifice bunt, but was thrown out and Baker was unable to score. Lantrip came on to hit and reached on a fielders choice, but Baker was able to score on the play, giving the Trojans the win..

Riley Mashburn started for the Trojans and pitched the first five innings allowing eight hits, six runs, five walks, and struck out four. Lauren Baker came on in relief, going the final two innings. Baker (21-8) was perfect in two innings of work with one strike out.

Lantrip was 1-3 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored. Lauren Baker was 1-3 with a double, run scored and two RBI. Lantrip's home run was her 11th of the year. It also marked the 71st time a Trojan had hit a home run this season, a Trevecca record and fifth most in NAIA history.

Trevecca advances to the final eight-team Championship Bracket. Their first game will be tonight at 9 p.m. versus Shorter College. Trevecca defeated Shorter (50-14) earlier this season at a tournament.

Its the fourth time in as many tries that the Trojans have advanced through pool play to the eight-team Championship Bracket.
