NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca baseball coach Jonathan Burton has added Hinds Community College catcher Zach Polzin to his 2010-2011 recruiting class.
The Brandon, Miss. native had a fantastic sophomore season for coach Sam Temple at Hinds. In the Spring of 2010 he led the Eagles in doubles (13), home runs (11) and RBI (51). He finished with a .337 average and collected 103 total bases.
2010 Hinds Statistics Polzin was named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Player of the Week for the week of April 18-25, when he hit .643 (9-14) with nine runs, two doubles, four home runs, nine RBI's and one walk.
"Zach is going to be a very exciting player for us," said Coach Burton. "He gives us something we didn't have at all in the middle of the order last season, which is the ability to drive the ball to all fields. He is a great fit for us not only athletically but academically as well. Zach is excited to be here and we are glad to have him."
The Eagles claimed the 2010 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) state championship and have now had 14 players sign with four-year colleges.
In 2009, he was second on the team with eight home runs while producing a .359 average with 14 doubles, eight home runs and 31 RBI. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the national junior college honor society and was named Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges for his efforts in the classroom.
The 6-foot right-hander played for Jeff McClaskey at Northwest Rankin High School where he was named to the All-Metro team in 2008, All-District honoree in 2007 and 2008. He was a member of the 2005 5A state championship team, and also part of four straight district championship teams. He served as captain of the bowling team at Northwest Rankin.
