NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Former Donelson Christian Academy pitcher Craig Stem is transferring to Trevecca after two seasons at Western Kentucky University. Stem, who is pitching for the Nashville Outlaws of the Prospect League this summer, will play his final two years of college baseball for coach Jonathan Burton's Trojans.
As a sophomore at Western Kentucky, the 6-5 righthander posted a 1-2 record with 15 strikeouts against three walks in nine innings of work. In his freshman season, he logged 7.0 innings pitched in his debut season on the Hill, including back-to-back scoreless appearances, one of which was a start against Kentucky Wesleyan.
"We are very fortunate to get a pitcher of Craig's potential," said coach Burton. "He will do a great job for us on the weekends and has some electric stuff. He will be another guy that we are expecting to carry the load of some major innings this season. His competitive nature will be contagious for our other pitchers as we begin to develop consistency within the pitching staff."
At Donelson Christian Academy, Stem was a two-time all-district selection while posted an 8-3 record in 11 games as a senior, including five starts. He had a 2.04 ERA in 58.1 innings pitched and registered 101 strikeouts to just 40 walks, holding opponents to a .148 batting average against. His strikeouts per seven innings pitched ratio was 12.12 and hits allowed per seven innings pitched ratio was 3.6.
