NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Ashley (Birdwell) Scism followed up last year's runner-up finish in the same tournament by winning the 2010 James H. Fyke Municipal Women's Amateur tournament played in Nashville this past weekend. Scism, a rising junior at TNU, fought through the heat and high rough on Sunday at Nashville's Harpeth Hills Golf Course to shoot a solid round of 81, securing the title by four strokes over her next closest competitors. Saturday's first round was played at Two Rivers GC and Scism birdied the 18th hole to shoot an even-par round of 72.

"Although she really hit the ball well in the Tennessee Women's Open a couple of weeks ago, I knew Ashley was still stinging a bit from just a couple of tough holes that hurt her scores," said TNU women's coach Michael Johnson. "To see her come back and win this year's Municipal is really gratifying. We all know that she is crucial to our efforts for a return to the national tournament next spring."

Scism commented "I probably hit the ball tee to green as well as I can remember in a long time. If I had made a couple more short putts on Saturday, I could've gone really low. As it was, I was just happy to execute my game plan and come away with the win."

The Trevecca women open their 2010-11 season at the challenging Walsh Invitational at The Sanctuary Golf Club in North Canton, Ohio on September 13-14. Coach Johnson has two other proven returnees in Whitney Phillips (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) and Maddie Privott (Bethany, Okla.) along with three promising freshman signees - Sarah Jo Dixon (Cookeville, Tenn.), Loren Pickett (Monteagle, Tenn.), and Ashley Randolph (Cookeville, Tenn.).
