MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Former Trevecca women's basketball great Mariska Reed Harris recently joined MTSU women's basketball coach Rick Insell's staff as the program's director of basketball operations. Harris, who played at Trevecca from 2004-2008 and is the Trojans' second all-time leading scorer, was most recently the head coach at Independence High School.
Harris played at Trevecca during the most successful 4-year run in the program's history, when the Trojans won a total of 103 games and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NAIA National Tournament three straight years (2005-2007) and finishing as national runner-up in 2008. She finished her career with 1,719 points, second only to Jennifer Wilson's 2,109, and averaged 12.55 points per game, good for 6th all-time. She is the Trojans' all-time leader in free throws made (488) and attempted (598), shares the all-time lead with Jennifer Bognar in games played with 137, and is 2nd all-time with 273 steals.http://www.goblueraiders.com/content.cfm/id/47287
The list of accomplishments for Harris during her Trevecca career is a long one: 2-time All-TranSouth Conference first team (2007-2008), 2-time All-TranSouth Conference Tournament team (2006,2008), NAIA All-Tournament first team (2008), 2-time Honorable Mention NAIA All-American (2007-2008), TranSouth Conference All-Freshman team (2005), 2-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete (2007-2008), and 3-time TranSouth Scholar-Athlete (2006-2008). Harris is in the top 10 in Trevecca women's basketball history in 18 different statistical categories and was an important part of the 2005-06 team that holds school records for consecutive wins (19) and wins in a season (31). She also holds individual season records with 159 free throws made and 191 free throws attempted, both accomplished in the 2007-08 season.
As part of the Lady Raiders' staff, Harris will be responsible for planning camps, and handling the team's travel and practice arrangements.
