Click for story in Daily News JournalNASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca baseball coach Jonathan Burton has announces Alex Watson of Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Riverdale High School has signed to play for the Trojans this season. Watson is transferring to Trevecca from Middle Tennessee State University and will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Trojans.
The 5'10" catcher was a two year player for the Steve Peterson coached MTSU Blue Raiders. In 2005 (freshman) at Middle Tennessee he played in 19 games with nine starts. Batted .282 with three doubles, eight RBIs and four runs scored. In 2006 he played in 23 games with nine starts. For the year hit .364 (16-for-44) with two doubles, five walks, five runs scored, eight RBI and threw out three of four runners attempting to steal.

Was a four-year starter for coach Buddy Powers at Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Riverdale High School. Three-time All-District selection ... Two-time TBCA Showcase participant and member of Team Tennessee in 2002-03 ... Three-time All-Area pick and TSWA All-State as junior ... Batted .331 with nine home runs, 48 RBIs and 14 doubles as junior ... Hit .352 with two home runs and 27 RBIs as senior, earning Third-Team All-MidState from the Tennessean ... Named to Street & Smith's top players for 2004 ... Three-year letter winner in football, earning Blue Cross Bowl Most Valuable Defensive Player as sophomore.
Coach Burton says, "We are extremely excited to have a catcher that can swing the bat from both sides of the plate. Alex played one season at MTSU and is a welcome addition and will contribute right away. Alex has the ability to do some great things here at Trevecca."
In addition to his baseball abilities, Watson is a classical pianist.
Watson adds to the 2008-2009 recruiting class that includes Junior College transfers Tim Dunn (John A. Logan College), Matt Lyle (Calhoun Community College), and Trey Morrison (Dyersburg State Community College).
