The
Trevecca Nazarene University sports information and marketing offices received
10 publication awards at the 2011 National Association of Intercollegiate
Athletics-Sports Information Directors Association (NAIA-SIDA) workshop, held
June 25, 2011, at Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, Fla.
Trevecca
took top honors in three (3) different publications contests of the nearly 300
NAIA schools. Trevecca produced three (3) Best of the Nation cover awards with
Micah Kandros, Gregory Ruff, and each respective coach working together on the
cover design.
For
the men's golf cover, it is the fourth consecutive year to be judged as the
"Best in the Nation." The Trevecca men's basketball and women's
basketball brochures also won first place in their 2010-2011 contests.
The
Trojans' staff of Gregory Ruff, Steve Ulrey, David Patrick, Elizabeth Streight,
Trevor Lubiens, and Rick Hill earned a top-8 or better finish in six (6)
different categories for publications created in the 2010-2011 academic year.
Gregory
Ruff was awarded the fourth best score in the Dr. W. Jack Bell Writing Contest
for his feature article title "Trevecca's Cannon Turns Strife into
Leadership."
The
publications are judged by sports information directors, media members and
design experts from across the country. Trevecca's SID, Gregory Ruff, judged the
NAIA football guides again this year.
In
the overall guide contests, Trevecca picked up 3rd-place honors in the Individual
Softball Brochure category, and the Trojans' baseball and men's golf guides
each took home 6th place in their categories. The women's basketball and
women's golf guides finished seventh and the men's basketball guide was eighth.
Since
entering its first NAIA-SIDA contest in 1999, Trevecca has achieved the
following record for its sports publications: 27 top-five finishes, 50 top-10
finishes, 11 "best cover" awards, and a runner-up "best
cover" award.
This
year the production of the guides was managed by Trevecca Director of Sports Information Gregory Ruff. Photography was supplied by Elizabeth Streight,
Gregory Ruff, and Micah Kandros, with editing provided by Jan Greathouse and
Brenda Patterson. Cover designs and interior design came from Rick Hill, David
Patrick, Elizabeth Streight and Micah Kandros, with interior design assistance
from Gregory Ruff. In addition, each coaching staff contributed to the
production of their respective media guide and area of the website.
Best
Cover awards went to Men's Golf (Robbie Wilson, Micah Kandros, Gregory Ruff),
men's basketball (Sam Harris, Micah Kandros, Gregory Ruff), and women's
basketball (Gary Van Atta, Micah Kandros, Gregory Ruff) this year.
