EAST POINT, Ga. - Point University, formerly Atlanta Christian College, has announced that Jennifer Perkins, a former Trevecca softball All-American, is the school's first-ever softball head coach.

"Jennifer is extremely bright and enthusiastic," said Alan Wilson, PU athletic director. "She has a passion for the sport of softball, and we are extremely fortunate to have her as our first-ever softball coach."

"Starting a program is a huge responsibility, but I feel that the future of softball at our university is in very good hands.," Wilson continued. "Jennifer will not only be a positive influence on our students, but will also have a tremendous impact on the campus community."

Perkins is a graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University, where she played softball for four years and was named a first-team NAIA All-American. Perkins also earned a master's degree in teaching from Lee.

Perkins holds the Trevecca single season record for home runs. She hit a record 23 home runs during the 2007 season. Her historical 2007 season included producing the second most RBI (65), second most extra base hits (33), and sixth most hits (80) in school history.

Her 23 home runs in 2007 ranked her third in NAIA history for home runs in a single season.

Perkins career ranks include a second place ranking in home runs (36) as well as placing third in RBI (148), third in extra base hits (75), and fifth in doubles (39).

"I am so excited about this wonderful opportunity at Point University," said Perkins. "I'm blessed to become a part of this exceptional, growing institution with a caring and supportive administration and staff that clearly cares about its students, on and off the field. I look forward to working with these student-athletes in starting and building this softball program as a winning tradition."

Perkins has served as assistant coach of the softball team at Lee University for the last three years. Lee's team is currently ranked seventh in the nation. Prior to her time at Lee, Perkins coached at Donelson Christian Academy in Donelson, Tenn.
