NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Former Trevecca pitcher PJ (Patrick) Francescon, who was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 40th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball (MLB) Amateur Draft in June, moved up again in his first season of professional baseball. On Thursday, the Cubs moved Francescon up to their advanced Single-A Daytona Cubs, where he will bolster the Daytona roster for the playoffs.

Francescon produced some impressive numbers with the Chiefs. In his last seven appearances he struck out 20 batters and allowed just four walks over 20.2 innings pitched. During that stretch he allowed just 13 hits and two earned runs.

Francescon, who started the season with the AZL Cubs, moved up to the Cubs Low Single-A team in Peoria, Ill. after just one appearance with the rookie league team.

The early move to the Peoria Chiefs was impressive, but more so because Francescon skipped over the Cubs short season Single-A Boise Hawks to the full season Chiefs. Francescon joined the Chiefs as they began the second half of their season.

After signing with the Cubs, Francescon was assigned to the Arizona Rookie League AZL Cubs. The Arizona League is run by Minor League Baseball.

Patrick Francescon, a 6-foot-one right-handed pitcher, delievered the save in his first and only appearance with the AZL Cubs. Francescon pitched two innings allowing just one hit, no walks, and struck out two. In just a week with the team, Francescon impressed the organization enough to pass him over the Boise Hawks

Francescon, from Nolensville, Tenn., played for Ravenwood High School before pitching at Middle Tennessee State University. Following an injury, Francescon left baseball. The fire burned still and his arm healed, he returned to the game and played for Trevecca this season.
