NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca men's basketball team (5-4) fell behind early and never fully recovered as Harris Stowe State University defeated the Trojans 69-55 at Trojan Fieldhouse in the opener of the Robert Garrett Classic. Trevecca defeated Harris Stowe 79-75 in St. Louis earlier this season. This is just the second loss for the Trojans in the RGC, they are now 11-2 all-time in the event.

Trevecca's only lead came at the 16:37 mark of the first half when the Trojans lead 7-6. The Hornets outscored the Trojans 32-11 over the next 15 minutes for a 20-point (38-18) lead. Trevecca scored the final basket of the half, but trailed 38-21.

The Trojans shot 32% (8-25) from the field in the first half and were outrebounded 16-13. The Hornets scorched the nets in the first half, hitting 7-of-8 from three point range and 54% (13-24) from the field.

Trevecca started the second half with a 4-0 run that cut the Harris Stowe lead to 13 (38-25) with 17:46 to go. The Hornets regrouped and grew their lead to 23 points (50-27) with 12:45 remaining on the strength of a 12-2 run. Trevecca's best play of the game would come next. Over the next six minutes Trevecca outscored HSSU 18-4 and cut the Hornets lead to just nine points (54-45) with 6:47 to go. The rally stalled and though Trevecca cut the lead to nine points (62-53) again with 1:50 to go, but they could get no closer. Harris Stowe finished with a 69-55 road win.

Michael France led Trevecca with 17 points, only JP Nyadaro joined him in double-figure scoring with 11 points. Nyadaro added a team-high eight rebounds, a block and a steal. Marquise Rudolph added a team-high five assists, eight points, four rebounds, and a steal.

As a team Trevecca shot 34% (21-61) from the field, 25% (7-28) from three-point range, and 43% (6-14) from the foul line.

Harris Stowe outrebounded Trevecca 35-34 and shot 54% (22-41) from the field, 67% (8-12) from three-point range, and 58% (17-29) from the foul line. Terry Hollins led three Hornets in double figures with 14 points. Wayne Brown (13) and Donald Davis (12) also reached double figures in scoring. Robert Mumphard had a game-high nine rebounds and five blocks.

Trevecca will face College of the Ozarks (5-5) on Friday at 4 p.m. The Bobcats defeated Victory University (7-3) 91-65 in the Robert Garrett Classic opener on Friday.  Both games (2 and 4 p.m.) Robert Garrett Classic games will have live video and audio on Trevecca's Game Central portal on Saturday.
