HARTSELLE, Ala. - Trevecca Nazarene University's women's golf coach, Michael Johnson, is pleased to announce the signing of Kaylon King of Hartselle (Ala.) High School. King signed her scholarship in front of a packed house at the high school where she has distinguished herself as a championship golfer as well as a high achiever in the classroom.
Alabama high schools play a spring season in golf, so King now embarks on her sixth season as a varsity golfer at Hartselle HS. She was pressed into duty as a seventh grader and she has been shining brightly for one of Alabama's outstanding golf programs ever since, particularly since her freshman year. King and her Tiger teammates are in pursuit of a fourth straight 1A-5A state championship this spring. In the three previous state championship tournaments, King has been a top-10 finisher each time. In 2011, she shot 79-83 at the challenging Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove course in Mobile, finishing eighth overall.
King has been named to the Morgan County All-Tournament team (3 times), the Decatur Daily Girls Golf All-Area team (3 times), the Huntsville Times Elite Golf Team (2 times) and she made the all-tournament team at the Hanceville Invitational in 2011. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta chapters at HHS and carries a 4.0 GPA.
Coach Johnson said, "We're so fortunate that Kaylon has decided that Trevecca is where she wants to be for her college years! She is just scratching the surface of how good she can be as a golfer - and she's already had a lot of success, so her signing is a real winner for our program."
"The other thing about Kaylon that is so attractive to us is her total approach to life," said Johnson. " She's involved in about as many different good things as any high school student can be. She's a 4.0 student. She helps with school projects of all kinds. She leads worship for her church youth group. I mean, she's just an terrific young lady that shares her zest for life with everyone she possibly can. Kaylon will be a real asset to TNU!"
King plans to pursue studies in the Center for Worship Arts at TNU.
Her parents, Charlie and Lisa King, along with younger brother, Hunter, were on hand for the signing as well as both sets of grandparents and many other family and friends from the community.
