Lyon ended the Trojan run and held on for the 67-58 win over the Trojans. It was the third straight win for Lyon in the series, Trevecca had won 10 straight prior to losing the last three.
"We have started slow a in a lot of games this season and obviously we are working to jump-start our team from the beginning," commented Trevecca coach Gary Van Atta. "We had a great run when we were down by 20 points and cut it to five, we just have to find a way to have that run earlier in the game. Coming from behind takes a great deal out of you."
Van Atta continued, "I really enjoy coaching this team and the effort is there most of the time, we need to get that effort for 40 minutes. We can do a better job of scrapping for lose balls and taking better care of the ball."
Kayla Biles scored a career-high 20 points and was joined in double figure scoring by Anna Mitchell who scored 15. Rachel Raby and Rachel Bollinger each grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Bollinger had a team-high three steals and scored six points. Trevecca shot 41% (22-53) from the field, 25% (3-12) from three-point range, and 65% (11-17) from the foul line.
Lyon was led in scoring by 18 points from Phagen Altom. The Scots won the rebounding battle 40-34. Both teams scored 32 points in the second half.
The Trojans are off for a week, and then will hit the road again for a matchup at #3 Union (18-2, 5-1 TranSouth) Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. at Fred DeLay Gymnasium in Jackson, Tenn.
