NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca
(17-9, 8-5 TSAC) hosted conference leader Freed-Hardeman (27-3, 12-0) on Tuesday falling to the Lions in four sets.
The
Trojans took the first two points, but Freed responded, quickly
claiming the lead, stretching it to 10-6 and forcing the Trojans to
take a timeout. The Lions continued to play well, eventually taking a
seven point lead at 22-15. Trevecca battled back, taking five of the
next six points to close within two points, but the Lions hung on,
taking the first set 25-22.
Trevecca
jumped ahead 5-2 to start the second set, but Freed came back strong
again, forcing the Trojans to take timeouts at 15-12 and 19-13 en route
to the Lions' 25-18 second set victory.
Trevecca fell behind early
in the third set, but this time it was the Trojans who came back.
Jessica Hood ignited a 10-1 Trevecca run to give the Trojans n 18-11
lead. Freed would get no closer than four the rest of the set, and the
Trojans pulled to within one set of even with the 25-16 win.
For
the first half of the fourth set, neither team had a lead of more than
two points, as the set was tied 13-13. Freed took two straight points
to take a 15-13 lead and coach Crowley took a time out. Trevecca
responded by taking the next three points to reclaim the lead at 16-15.
The Lions, however, rattled off a 7-0 run that spanned the Trojans'
final timeout to stretch their lead to 22-16. The Trojans closed to
within two at 22-20, but Freed took the next three points to win the
set, and the match, 25-20.
The Trojans will be
back in action on Thursday, traveling to Lebanon, Tenn. to take on the
Cumberland Bulldogs (16-15, 5-7) at 6:00.
