ROME, Ga. - NAIA No. 4 Trevecca (3-0) defeated No. 23 Berry (0-2) 74-70 in the final game of the Berry Classic at the Cage Center.
Trevecca doubled up Berry 18-9 at the 11:15 mark of the first half. Trevecca pushed their lead to 14 points (29-15) with 7:22 to go in the half. Trevecca would lead 37-30 at the break.
Trevecca held a double digit lead for most of the second half. With 5:14 to play Trevecca led 67-53 and Berry began to close the gap. Berry closed the gap to just two points (69-67) with a 14-2 run on a Nikki Jackson field goal with :37 remaining. The Trojans were able to hold on for the 74-70 victory.
Jennifer Bognar led the Trojans in scoring with 23 points. K.C. Van Atta (17) and Abby Lawson (13) also scored in double figures. Angelica Sails scored eight points and led the team with 14 rebounds. Van Atta and Lawson had a team high two blocks apiece. Casey Attebery had a team high three steals and Lawson was tops in assists with four.
Trevecca was 25-of-58 (43%) from the field, 3-for-12 (25%) from three point range, and hit 21-of-26 (80%) from the foul line. Each team grabbed 36 rebounds. TNU outscored BC 42-22 in the paint.
Trevecca will return to action on Friday, November 14 when they host the Pops Duncan Classic at Moore Gym. Trevecca will play Talladega College on Friday at 7 p.m. and then Tennessee Wesleyan (1-1) on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
