
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NAIA No. 4 Trevecca (6-0) defeated Knoxville College 101-25 on Tuesday night, running their season record to 6-0 and their all-time mark against Knoxville to 2-0.
The Trojans opened the game with an 11-0 run before Knoxville broke the shutout and cut the deficit to 15-5. That was when the Trojans broke the game wide open, using a 33-0 run to stretch their lead out to 38-5. Knoxville cut it to 42-9, but Trevecca posted another 17-0 run to stretch the margin to 50 and at the break, the Trojans led 63-13.
After a Knoxville three-point basket to open the second half, the Trojans ran off another 10 in a row to stretch the lead to 73-16. The Bulldogs continued to battle, but with the score at 81-22, the Bulldogs - who brought only six players - ran out of gas. Trevecca finished the game on a 20-3 run, taking the win 101-25.
Four Trojans were in
double figures, led by Jennifer Bognar's 16. K.C. Van Atta and Paige
McFarlin
each scored 12, and Chelsey Taylor chipped in 11. Abby Lawson led the
Trojans with nine boards, while Vanessa Pincheon and Casey Atteberry
led the
Trojans with five assists each.
As a team, Trevecca hit 44-of-68 (64.7%) from the field, 6-for-17 (35.3%) from three-point range, and 7-of-9 (77.8%) from the foul line. Trevecca out-rebounded Knoxville 43-22 and outscored the Bulldogs 28-2 in fast break points, 34-5 in points off of turnovers, 62-6 in points in the paint, 28-2 in second chance points, and 52-0 in points off the bench.
Trevecca will host the Music City State Farm Classic this weekend, featuring the preseason No. 4 Trojans, the No. 11 Point Loma Nazarene Sea Lions (0-0), the No. 22 Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm (6-0), and the No. 25 Olivet Nazarene Tigers (4-0). Point Loma and Southern will open the tournament on Friday at 5:00, with Trevecca and Olivet taking to the floor at 7:00. The losers of the two games will play Saturday at 2:00, with the tournament championship game taking place at 4:00.
