NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NAIA No. 4 Trevecca (7-0) is hosting the Music City State Farm Classic this weekend, featuring the preseason No. 4 Trojans, the No. 11 Point Loma Nazarene Sea Lions (0-1), the No. 22 Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm (7-0), and the No. 25 Olivet Nazarene Tigers (4-1). Trevecca defeated Olivet Nazarene in the Trojans' first game of the tournament 117-86.
Trevecca took the early lead, but Olivet battled back, taking their only lead of the game at 14-13 with 14:22 remaining in the first half. Trevecca regained the lead with 13:15 to play, and stretched it out steadily, taking the 56-43 lead into the locker room at the break. Throughout the game, the Tigers subbed in and out five players about every 40 seconds, but the ploy actually worked to the Trojans' advantage. Olivet never seemed to gain any rhythm in the game, and Trevecca pulled away for their seventh win on the season, 117-86.
Trevecca had six players in double figures, led by K.C. Van Atta's 23. Angelica Sails had 19, Casey Atteberry had 17, Jennifer Bognar scored 14, Casey Pigue had 13, and Chelsey Taylor chipped in 11 as well. Atteberry led the Trojans with eight rebounds, while she and Abby Lawson notched a team-high seven assists.
Trevecca shot 41-of-80 (51.2%) from the floor, 11-of-32 (34.4%) from long distance, and 24-of-30 (80%) from the foul line. Trevecca out-rebounded Olivet 52-50 and had 29 assists as a team. The two teams combined to be whistled for 64 fouls in the contest.
Point Loma and Olivet will meet in the Tournament consolation game on Saturday at 2:00, while Trevecca and Southern Nazarene will play for the Tournament title at 4:00.
