
The Wildcats shook off the Christmas break rust first and pulled ahead of the Trojans 10-4 with 16:35 to go in the first half. Trevecca took their first lead with 10:04 to in the half at 17-16. Bethel regained the lead at 18-17, but wouldn't lead again in the first half. Trevecca pulled ahead and took a 40-28 lead into the half time break.
With 13:02 remaining in the game Trevecca held their largest lead of the game at 54-40. Bethel was up to the task and rallied back and regained the lead 68-67 with 1:37 remaining. Jennifer Bognar gave the Trojans the lead again 69-68 with a field goal at the 1:09 mark. Teena Carter scored on a second chance basket to give the Wildcats a 70-69 lea with :29 seconds remaining. Abby Lawson was fouled with :20 remaining, but missed the front end of the 1-and-1. The Trojans sent Bethel's Meagan Price to the foul line for a 1-and-1 and she missed the front end. Jennifer Bognar rebounded the ball and found Abby Lawson down the floor who layed it up and in to give the Trojans a 71-70 lead. Bethel was unsuccessful on their final attempt and the Trojans remained perfect overall and in TSAC play.
Abby Lawson led Trevecca with 21 points, including the game winner. Lawson was 9-of-14 from the field and hit 3-of-4 from beyond the three-point arc. Jennifer Bognar added 18 points, passing Ashley Boykin for fifth on the Trojans' all-time scoring list, while Vanessa Pincheon scored 11 points - her first double-digit scoring effort as a Trojan.. K.C. Van Atta topped the rebounding totals with eight and Angelica Sails and Lawson each had a team-high four assists.
As a team Trevecca hit 28-of-62 (45%) from the field, 6-of-16 (37.5%) from beyond the arch, and 9-of-12 (75%) from the foul line. Bethel took the rebounding category 42-35 while the Trojans were tops in assists (16-10), steals (9-6), and blocks (5-4). Bethel had 17 turnovers while the Trojans had 15..
Trevecca will visit No. 6 Lambuth University (10-3) on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Jackson, Tenn. for a non-conference matchup. The Eagles are no longer members of the TranSouth.
