
Playing without injured guard K.C. Van Atta, the Trojans did see the return of junior point guard Christian Gibson who played for the first time since breaking her nose on December 12.
Martin Methodist opened the game on a 6-1 run, but the Trojans answered with a 9-1 spurt, taking the 10-7 lead with 14:56 to go in the first half. The two teams battled fiercely for the next 12 minutes before Trevecca opened up a 29-25 lead with 1:22 to go, and at the break, Trevecca led 32-28. The RedHawks led twice in the second half, but by no more than three points, and in the end the Trojans were just too much. Trevecca stretched out the lead as the half wore on, taking the 81-70 victory.
Abby Lawson led the Trojans in scoring with 16 points. Angelica Sails had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, Paige McFarlin scored 12 points, and Gibson and Casey Attebery each chipped in 10 points. Chelsey Taylor led the Trojans with four assists.
As a team, Trevecca shot 23-for-53 (43.4%) from the floor, 5-for-9 (55.6%) from long range, and 32-for-37 (81.1%) from the charity stripe. The Trojans out-rebounded the RedHawks 37-30.
Saturday's game is the first in a series of four games in eight days for the Trojans. The Trojans will hit the road for a 8 p.m. game on Monday versus Mid-Continent (2-12, 0-2) at the Mayfield (Ky.) Sports Arena. They will stay on the road Thursday versus Blue Mountain (Miss.) College (3-11, 0-3) at 8 p.m. The final game in the stretch is back at Moore Gym with Cumberland University (6-11, 2-3) visiting on Saturday (Jan. 24) at 4 p.m.
