
Mid-Continent scored the first two points of the game, but Trevecca quickly came back to build a 13-9 lead with 16:15 to play in the first half. The Trojans eventually stretched their lead to seven at 18-11 with 14:21 left in the half, but with 8:20 to go, the Cougars tied the game at 25-25 on a three-pointer from Joshua Woodley. Both teams continued to fight hard, but the Trojans went into the break holding a slim 43-40 lead.
Early in the second half, Mid-Continent posted an 6-2 spurt to reclaim the lead, and though Trevecca took a brief 48-46 lead with 17:30 to go, the Cougars led for much of the period. With 12:19 left, Mid-Continent stretched their lead to it's largest margin of the night at 62-53, but then Trevecca mounted a charge. Brian Oduor gave the Trojans the lead back with 6:42 remaining in the game, capping a 10-0 Trojan run. Mid-Continent rebounded to take the lead back at 64-63, but the Trojans came right back to reclaim the lead with 5:14 to play. With 16 seconds left, Mid-Continent tied the game at 69-69, and suddenly a second consecutive trip to overtime was staring the Trojans in the face. Trevecca had an opportunity to retake the lead, but Oduor was unsuccessful on his attempt to give the Trojans the advantage, and the rebound went out of bounds to the Cougars, and at the buzzer, Donovan Willis hit a 19-foot leaner to give the Cougars the 71-69 win.
Oduor led the
Trojans with 24 points, and he was joined in double-figures by
Christopher Harris, who scored 13, and Tyler Wakins who had 10. Oduor
posted a double-double in the game, adding 14 rebounds in the contest.
As a team, Trevecca shot 22-of-52 (42.3%) from the floor, 7-of-18
(38.9%) from long range, and 18-of-25 (72%) from the charity stripe.
They will stay on the road Thursday versus Blue Mountain
(Miss.) College (1-17, 0-5) at 8 p.m. The final game in the stretch is back at Moore Gym with No. 7 Cumberland University
(14-2, 4-1) visiting on Saturday (Jan. 24) at 4 p.m.
