MONTGOMERY,
Ala. - The No. 20 Trevecca Nazarene Trojans (1-2) dominated the diamond
on Saturday afternoon forcing the mercy rule into effect as they topped
the No. 3 Embry-Riddle Eagles (1-2) in a seven inning, 15-1 ball game.
The win is the first collegiate win for first-year Trevecca coach
Jonathan Burton. It avenges an 8-2 loss by the Trojans to the Eagles in
the season opener yesterday. The game was played at Auburn Montgomery's
Senators Stadium.
Trevecca's
Tim Dunn (1-0) threw five hitless innings before being taken out of the
game with the Trojans up 11-1. The junior struck out seven. Ben Johnson
came on to pitch the final two innings for Trevecca. He allowed one run
on one hit and walked one. He had two strikeouts. His teammates backed
him with 13 hits and no errors, while Dunn allowed only five base
runners, all reaching on walks.
Trey Morrison was 3-for-5 with a run and
an RBI. Aaron Bree and Marty Parks each scored three runs. Bree was
1-for-2 with a homer, two RBI and walked three times. Parks was 1-for-3
with two RBI and a walk. Chris Lowe was 3-for-4 with a walk, a stolen
base, a double, two RBI, and two runs scored. Brian Dirheimer joined
the fun going 2-for-5 with a home run, a run scored, two RBI, and a
double. Cody Heggie was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a run scored,
and two RBI. Matt Tidwell was 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored
and an RBI. In all, nine Trojans had at least one hit in the game.
As
a team Trevecca had 16 hits and no errors. The Trojans scored two in
the third, one in the fourth, seven in the fifth, one in the sixth, and
four in the seventh. The Eagles scored their lone run in the bottom of
the sixth. ERAU had just one hit and committed one error. Trevecca had
eight doubles in the game and 10 total extra base hits.
The
Eagles pitching staff was roughed up by the Trojans hitters, allowing
15 runs on 16 hits. Austin Quinn (0-1) started on the mound for the
Eagles, allowing eight runs on nine hits in his first outing on the
season. Tucker Jensen relieved Quinn after four and a third innings,
allowing four runs on three hits in one and two-thirds innings pitched.
R. Rodriguez made his first appearance for the
Eagles in the seventh
inning, giving up four runs on three hits.
Trevecca will start a three-game series at Milligan College on Friday
at 1 p.m. The teams will play a double-header on Saturday beginning at
Noon.
