MT. BERRY, Ga. - NAIA No. 20 Trevecca Nazarene Trojans (3-4) lost the opening game of their double-header at Berry Vikings (5-2) on Tuesday. The Viking received votes in the NAIA Preseason Top 25. The games were played at Berry's William R. Bowdin Field.

In the opener of the double header Trevecca lost 10-7 after rallying to tie the game at seven with a four-run sixth. Trevecca took a 1-0 lead with a run in the second inning. Berry answered with three in the bottom half and each team scored a run in the third. Berry pulled ahead 6-2 with a two-run fourth. After each team scored a run in the fifth, Berry led 7-3. The Trojans pushed across four in the sixth to tie the game at seven, but the Vikings secured the win with three in the bottom half of the inning.

Marty Parks, Chris Lowe, and Brian Dirheimer all had a double. Cody Heggie provided a home run. Parks added a stolen base and Lowe had a triple. Parks was 1-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Lowe was 2-4 with a run and RBI. Ross Muirhead, Trey Morrison, Heggie, Dirheimer, and Lowe all had two hits in the game.

The Trojans scored seven runs on 13 hits, but had six errors in the game. Berry had 10 runs on nine hits and committed and error.

Chris Sutherland (0-1) took the loss in relief. Sutherland came on in the fifth and allowed one run on one walk; He pitched 2/3 of an inning. Ben Johnson was the starter and he lasted four and a third inning. He allowed seven runs; four earned and gave up nine hits and a walk. Johnson struck out three. Jeff Hughes pitched a third of an inning and Tim Dunn pitched the final two-thirds of an inning. Hughes allowed two runs (one earned) and allowed two walks. Dunn allowed one walk.

The Trojans home opener will be Friday at 2 p.m. when No. 18 Auburn Montgomery (7-4) comes for the first of a three-game series at Trevecca's Jackson Field. The two teams will face off in a Noon double-header on Saturday.
