NAIA No. 20 Trevecca Nazarene Trojans (6-5) hosted No. 18 Auburn
Montgomery
(9-6) on for a single game on Saturday, taking win and the series in a slugfest 17-10.

Durossette started the game for the Trojans, lasting five innings in
his third start of the season. AUM opened the scoring with a run in the
top of the first, but the Trojans answered in the bottom half. Cody
Heggie hit a triple off of Senators' starter Ridgely Plaines that
scored Brian Dirheimer and tied the game at 1-1. The Senators scored
twice more in the second inning, taking a 3-1 lead that would last into
the third inning. In the bottom of the third, Heggie knocked in Chris
Lowe with a double and Matt Tidwell followed with an RBI single to tie
the game at 3-3. Chase Birdwell gave the Trojans their first lead of
the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, and the
Trojans added four runs in the bottom of inning number five -
highlighted by a two-RBI single from Aaron Bree. Ben Johnson relieved
Durossette in the top of the sixth, and the Senators began to chip
away, scoring once in the sixth, and twice in the seventh off the
Trojan's left-hander to pull to within two at 8-6 before Chase Dixon
came on to record the final out of the frame. In the eighth, Dixon
allowed three runs before yielding to Ryan Whitson who allowed a fourth
run to score, and in the middle of the eighth, the Senators held a 10-8
lead, but that's when the Trojans' offense exploded. The first four
hitters all reached as the Trojans sent 13 hitters to the plate and
scored nine runs in the inning. Whitson (1-0) finished out the game for
the Trojans to earn the win, defeating Trey Haisten (0-1).
Offensively,
the Trojans slugged out 17 runs on 19 hits, with Matt Tidwell leading
thw way. Tidwell posted a 4-for-5 day with a double, a run scored, and
two RBI. Heggie and Dirheimer each had three hit afternoons. Heggie had
a double, a triple, two runs scored and two RBI; and Dirheimer had an
RBI as well. Aaron Bree knocked in three runs and scored twice, and
Birdwell posted a game-high four RBI with a double. The Trojans
committed two defensive errors, while Auburn Montgomery scored 10 runs
on 10 hits and had three errors.
The
Trojans will continue the 2009 campaign on Wednesday when they hit the
road to take on Tennessee Wesleyan College (8-6) for a single game at
1:00.
