McKENZIE, Tenn. - The Trevecca softball team (0-4) returned to action on Wednesday when they traveled to McKenzie, Tenn. to take on the Bethel Wildcats (7-1) for a double header, dropping the games 4-0 and 6-5.

In game one, Lauren Baker took the ball for the Trojans, allowing four runs, only two of them earned, in five and two-thirds innings of work. Baker (0-1) took the loss as she allowed 11 hits, but she struck out five batters without walking anyone. Amber Metzger earned the win for the Wildcats, tossing a two-hit shutout with a pair of strikeouts. Bethel scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth, and two more in the bottom of the sixth to provide the 4-0 margin. Chelsea and Caitlin Bailey recorded the Trojans' two hits in the game - both singles. Bethel scored four runs on 11 hits and played errorless ball, while the Trojans notched just two hits and committed three errors.

Game two saw Riley Mashburn (0-2) take the ball for Trevecca, and she was given the early lead. Karli Rush knocked in Sammy Simon in the top of inning number three to give the Trojans the 1-0 lead, but Bethel came roaring back. The Wildcats scored twice in the fourth inning, once in the fifth, and three times off of Shelby Mashburn in the sixth to build a 6-1 lead. Chelsea Bailey led off the top of the seventh inning with a triple, and she scored on Sammy Simon's groundout to cut the deficit to 6-2. After Karli Rush and Lauren Baker had reached with two outs, Megan Hemmingsen clubbed a three run homer (1) to pull the Trojans within one at 6-5. Melinda Patterson followed with a single to right, but Shelby Mashburn grounded out to end the game, and the Trojans' rally fell just short.

Rush was 2-for-3 in the game with a run and an RBI to lead the Trojans offensively. Bethel scored six runs on eight hits and made two errors, while the Trojans scored five runs on 10 hits and committed three errors.
