NASHVILLE, Tenn. - NAIA No. 10 Trevecca (22-6, 11-4 TranSouth)
returned home on Thursday night to host
the Mid-Continent Cougars (3-23, 1-14) for Senior Night, routing the
Cougars 91-31. The Trojans honored their two seniors - Jennifer Bognar
and Casey
Attebery.
Mid-Continent
scored the
first basket of the game, but the Trojans responded with a 7-0 run to
take the lead 7-2. Trevecca's half court pressure on the ball made life
difficult for the Cougars, as the Trojans forged ahead, taking a 29-9
lead with 9:49 to play in the first half. Moments later, the Cougars
got a layup
from Abbey McLeod to make it 29-11.
From there, the Trojans closed the half on a 21-0 run, and at the
break, Trevecca led 50-11. Trevecca continued to stretch the lead early
in the
second half, putting together another 10-0 run to make the score 60-11
with 15:42 left in the game. Mid-Continent scored their first
consecutive
baskets of the game with 7:39 to play, but the Trojans answered with a
12-0 run, and the Trojans came away victorious 91-31.
Jennifer Bognar
led the Trojans with 17 points in the game. K.C. Van Atta and Chelsey
Taylor
each scored 12, and freshman Vanessa Pincheon chipped in 10 and dished
out a team-high seven assists. Shenita Gleaves and Jessica Spencer led
the
Trojans with six rebounds each. Trevecca stole the ball 30 times in the
game and forced 45 turnovers. As a team, Trevecca shot 34-of-58 (58.6%)
from
the floor, 4-of-17 (23.5%) from lond distance, and 19-of-29 (65.5%)
from the free throw line. Trevecca dominated in all-facets of the game,
posting a
24-0 advantage in fast break points, a 60-2 edge in points off
turnovers, and a 58-6 win in the paint.
Trevecca will
wrap up their regular season schedule on Saturday at Cumberland
University
(8-21, 4-11 TranSouth) in Labanon, Tenn. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00.
The Trojans will open the TranSouth Conference Tournament on Wednesday
March 4
as the No. 3 seed when they host the Sixth-seeded Martin Methodist
RedHawks (19-10, 7-9 TranSouth) at 7:00.
