NASHVILLE, Tenn.
- The Trevecca Nazarene Trojans (11-8, 2-1 TranSouth) completed a
TranSouth weekend series with Freed-Hardeman (9-7, 1-2) on Saturday,
dropping the first game 2-1 and taking the second game 9-8.
Trevecca
jumped out to the early 1-0 lead when Trey Morrison scored on a wild
pitch in the second inning. Wes Griggs looked good early, setting down
nine in a row to start the ballgame before Leo Alvarez led off the
fourth inning with a double. He later scored on a passed ball, and
Noslen Labrada hit a two out solo home run to give the Lions the 2-1
lead. The Trojans had opportunities to reclaim the lead in the game,
but Trevecca stranded eight runners on base, including stranding the
bases loaded in the sixth. Griggs (1-4) took the tough luck loss,
despite allowing just two earned runs on four hits. He walked two in
the game and struck out seven. Jorge Lorie earned the win for the Lions
as Freed-Hardeman took the first game 2-1. Trey Morrison and Aaron Bree
were 2-for-2 offensively in the game for Trevecca, with Morrison
scoring a run and stealing a base in the game. Freed scored their two
runs on four hits and Trevecca scored one run on six hits. Neither team

In
game two it was Freed who scored early, putting up a run in the first
and three in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Drew Durossette relieved
starter Ben Johnson in the third inning, allowing just one run in three
innings of work, but the Trojans were held scoreless through four
innings of play and going to the bottom of the fifth, Trevecca was down
5-0. The Trojans scored once in the bottom of the fifth, and after
Freed put up a run in the top of the sixth, Trevecca cut the deficit to
two when Nathan Wright hit a two-run homer to make it 6-4. Freed went
quietly in the top of the seventh and in the bottom half of the frame,
the Trojans' Cody Heggie hit a two-RBI double to tie things up at 6-6
and send the game into extra innings. Willie Hernandez hit a two-run
blast for the Lions in the top of the eighth, but the Trojans battled
back in the bottom of the frame, however, and with two out a wild pitch
and an error on the catcher Alvarez scored the game winning runs as the
Trojans completed the come-from-behind win 9-8. Nick Shoup (1-0) tossed
the final three innings in relief to earn the win, defeating Les
Rodriguez (0-1) of Freed-Hardeman. Chris Lowe was 3-for-5 in the game;
Cody Heggie was 2-for-4 with a double, a run, and two RBI; Wright was
2-for-2 with a homer (2) and two RBI; and Ross Muirhead was 2-for-4
with a run and an RBI. Trevecca scored nine runs on 14 hits and
