MAYFIELD, Ky. - Trevecca's baseball team (15-10, 5-1
TranSouth)
wrapped up a TranSouth weekend series on Saturday taking on the
Mid-Continent Cougars (7-15, 0-3 TranSouth), completing the weekend
series sweep with a 13-0 win.
Ross Muirhead
belted a two-RBI double in the top of the fourth to give the Trojans a
2-0 lead. The Trojans broke the game wide open in the top of the fifth,
scoring four times in the frame to make it 6-0 Trojans. Chase Birdwell
knocked in a pair with a single in the seventh, and one out later, Matt
Tidwell slapped a two-RBI single to right, to stretch the Trojans' lead
to 10-0. Trevecca eventually tallied seven runs in the frame, and Ben
Johnson came on in relief of Nick Shoup to shut the door in the bottom
of the seventh and preserve the 13-0 victory.
Shoup (2-0)
earned the win, tossing six innings of shutout baseball and allowing
three hits while
walking four and fanning six Cougars. Tanner Hall (1-5) took the loss
for Mid-Continent. Cody Heggie led the Trojans offensively with a
3-for-5 performance. Heggie also stole a base, drove in a run, and
scored twice. Matt Tidwell was 2-for-4 in the game with a walk and two
RBI; Chase Birdwell was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI; Ross Muirhead
was 1-for-4 with a double, a run, and 2 RBI; and Trey Morrison was
1-for-4 with a double, two runs, and an RBI. Trevecca scored 13
runs on 12 hits and played errorless baseball, while Mid-Continent was
held scoreless on three hits and made six errors.
The Trojans will
return to action on Tuesday when the Lee Flames (24-3) come to
Nashville for a double-header. First pitch is slated for Noon.Tr
