
CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Trevecca softball team (10-10) began play in the Campbellsville University Invitational on Friday, falling 4-1 and 6-1 to Madonna University (16-4).
In
game one, Madonna jumped out on top 3-0 with three runs in the top of
the first inning. Trevecca scored a run in the fifth, but Madonna
closed the game out with a run in the sixth. Trevecca scored their run
with two hits and had one error. Madonna scored their four runs on six
hits.
Chelsea Bailey was 1-for-2 and had a double, a walk and the only RBI.
Shelby Mashburn (1-1) took the loss on the mound and was 1-for-2 at the
plate and scored the Trojans only run. Mashburn scored on Bailey's
double in the fifth inning. Mashburn allowed four runs, all earned, in
six innings of work. She had seven strikeouts and allowed two walks and
six hits. Jess Irwin (8-3) got the win for Madonna. She allowed two
hits, one run, and four walks while striking out 12 Trojans.
In
game two, Madonna scored a run in the top of the first and Trevecca
tied the game at one in the bottom of the third. The game remained tied
until the Crusaders pushed across five runs in the top of the seventh
inning for the win. The Trojans scored one run on six hits and had one
error. MU scored their six runs on eight hits.
Chelsea Bailey was 2-for-4 with a triple, a stolen base, and a run
scored. Karli Rush was 2-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base. Stephanie
Fisher (3-4) took the loss with seven innings pitched. The senior
allowed six runs, five earned, on eight hits and struck out five.
Hallie Minch (8-1) got the win after allowing one run on six hits and
three walks while striking out six Trojans.
On Saturday they will play Robert Morris College (8-5) at 8:30 a.m. and Union College (11-6) at 1:00 p.m.
The next home games will be a key TranSouth Conference matchup with Bethel College (12-4, 2-0 TranSouth) on Thursday, March 26 at 3 p.m.
