NASHVILLE, Tenn.
- Trevecca (16-13, 5-2 TranSouth) played
a
TranSouth Conference
doubleheader against NAIA No. 21 Freed-Hardeman (18-6, 6-2) on Tuesday,
splitting the twinbill. Trevecca took the first game 10-5, before
dropping the back half of the double-header 10-2.
Freed-Hardeman
jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first, highlighted by
a three-run home run off the bat of Brittany Yates. Trevecca came back
in bottom of the inning, however, as Karli Rush answered with a two-run
homer (3) to cut the deficit in half and make the score 4-2. Trevecca
took the lead with a three run bottom of the fifth, and broke the game
wide open with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to stretch
their lead out to 10-4. Freed scratched across a run in the top of the
seventh, but that was all they could muster, as Trevecca took game one
10-5.
Stephanie
Fisher (6-5) earned the win in relief of Riley Mashburn, tossing three
innings of one hit ball, allowing just one earned run and striking out
two. Tarrah Tucker (12-2) took the loss for the Lady Lions. Rush led
the way for the Trojans offensively, posting a 2-for-3 game, with the
home run, a triple (3), two runs scored and three RBI (20). Caitlyn
Bailey was 1-for-3 in the game with her first collegiate home run and
three RBI (11); Megan Suggs was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two
RBI (13); and Chelsea Bailey was 2-for-4 with a stolen base (17).
In
game two, Freed-Hardeman again jumped out early, building a 10-0 lead
with five runs each in the first and second innings. Trevecca was able
to stop the bleeding from there, but the Trojans were only able to
scratch across one run in the fourth and one in the fifth, falling 10-2
in five innings.
Riley
Mashburn (5-5) took the loss, with Britney Caldwell (6-4) earning the
win for Freed-Hardeman. Chelsea Bailey was the lone Trojan with two
hits in the game, running her NAIA-record hit streak to 30 games.
Trevecca will visit Cumberland University (5-19, 1-7 TranSouth) on
Friday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
Trevecca will host Lyon
College (15-16, 3-4 TranSouth) on Thursday, April 23 at 3 p.m. It will be a single-game makeup of a
game rained out earlier. The game will also serve as Senior Day for Trevecca's Chelsea Bailey and Stephanie Fisher.
