DICKSON, Tenn. - The 54-hole TranSouth Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championships Tournament are being played at the Greystone Golf Course in Dickson, Tenn. There are six teams and 30 golfers competing. The course is playing to a par of 72 over 6858 yards.
Early cold and wind didn't cause the scores to sky rocket in the morning round and the scores dipped as the temperatures rose for the afternoon round.
Trevecca Nazarene's men's golf team holds the lead following the first round (morning) of play with a 299. TNU's Joey Bradley shot a 2-under 70 and held the first round lead. Will Scism and Bobby Humburg in a tie for third with a 75. Skip Jones (79) and William Potts (83) rounded out the Trojans first round scoring.
Cumberland University is second with a 306 while Martin Methodist is third with a 308. Bethel College is a stroke back in fourth with a 309. Union University is at 311 in fifth place and Lyon College carded a 334.
Three strokes (73) behind Bradley is Logan Pressnell of Martin Methodist in second place. Tied for third with Scism and Humburg at 75 is Mills Hamaguchi (Union), Beau Brown (Bethel), Mitchell Fuller (Martin Methodist), and Josh Thomas (Bethel).
Cumberland University put together a tournament best 294 during the afternoon round to take the lead after two rounds (36 holes) of play. Cumberland sits on top with a (306-294) 600. Bethel College is now in second place with a (309-305) 614. Trevecca dropped to third with a (299-318) 617. Union University (311-312) 623, Martin Methodist (308-317) 625, and Lyon College (334-330) 664 rounded out the team scoring.
Individually scoring is rounding into a close battle for Tuesday's final round. Josh Young (77-68) of Cumberland and Joey Bradley (70-75) of Trevecca are tied at 145 after two rounds of play. Both carded red numbers in one of their two rounds. Adam Maxwell (Cumberland) is in third place with a (76-72) 148 and is followed by Beau Brown (Bethel) at (75-74) 149, Logan Pressnell (Martin Methodist) at (73-77) 150, and Will Scism (Trevecca) at (75-76) 151.
Bobby Humburg (75-83) 158, Skip Jones (79-85) 164, and William Potts (83-84) 167 are the other Trojan partipants.
The winner of the 2009 TranSouth Men's Golf Championships will advance to the NAIA National Championships. Trevecca has won the last four TranSouth Tournament titles.
The 59th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championships will be held May 19-22 at the TPC Deer Run in Silvis, Illinois.
