RAPID CITY, S.D. - Five-time TranSouth Athletic Conference champion
Trevecca Nazarene is one of 28 teams in Rapid City for the 15th Annual
NAIA Women's Golf National Championships.
Trevecca
posted a team total of 339 in the opening round and are in 22nd place
overall. Individually, Betsy Beaver posted the top Trojan round with an
80 and in 46th place overall. Ashley Birdwell is in 78th place with an 83.
Alyssa Moe (87) and Brooke Dillehay (89) are the other two Trojan
golfers competing in the event.
Trevecca
coach Michael Johnson is pleased with his teams first-ever first round
performance on the national stage, "Under the circumstances, it was a
reasonably good day for our team. We didn't play great, but we didn't
shoot ourselves out of the tournament either."
"For
our first experience on this level, I'm happy with the team's mindset
and we're looking forward to the opportunity we've given ourselves for
the remainder of the tournament. We're also hopeful for better than
predicted weather in the morning."
Alyssa Moe will lead the Trojans with a 9:30 a.m. tee time and will be followed by Dillehay (9:40), Beaver (9:50) and Birdwell (10:00) on the course. The weather prediction for their anticipated time on the course calls for temperatures in the 45-51 degree range, winds from 22-32 mph,
and a 20-35% chance of rain.
The tournament is being held
at Meadowbrook Municipal Golf Course. The course is playing to a par of 72 over 6000 yards. There are 144 golfers competing.
California
Baptist leads the tournament with a nine-over 297 and Adriana Nicolotti
of Cal Baptist is the only player under part with a one-under 71.

Championships
Format: A four-round tournament consisting of a maximum of 144
golfers. Competition is stroke play. Each team competes with five
golfers (minimum of four) and the top four scores posted each day are
counted toward the team standings.
The tournament field is cut
after 54 holes and reduced to the top 17 teams and 40 individuals
(including ties). Pairings and starting times shall be established by
the tournament director in consultation with officers of the NAIA-WGCA.
Meadowbrook Golf Course, an 18-hole links Championship Facility,
located at the foot of the beautiful Black Hills of Western South
Dakota.
Designed in the mid 1970's, by David Gill and Associates,
Meadowbrook is traditional in its layout. At over 7,100 yards in total
length, the course is an impressive challenge and offers a wonderful
golf experience. Rapid Creek flows through the course and comes into
play on five of the eighteen holes. The large undulating greens are vey
well protected by more than 60 bunkers. Meadowbrook is considered one
of the very best Championship Facilities in the country.
