The playing conditions were difficult at best on Wednesday at the NAIA Women's Golf Championship. As the Trojans begain second round play, the temperatures were in the low 50's with winds out of the NNW at 20 mph. By the time the last Trojans had turned in their card, the temperature had dipped to 43 degrees with a feel like temperature of 32. The winds were now 25-mile-per-hour and gusting to 40 mph and beyond.

Freshman Ashley Birdwell was the Lady Trojans' low scorer with a 15-over (87). She made just five pars and no birdies. The other three players finished between 19-over and 26-over.

Alyssa Moe was the only one of the four to make a birdie. She made a 4 on the par-5 18th, her ninth hole of the day.

The team is in 24th place now with a (339-367) 706. They are one stroke back of Walsh College. Birdwell is now in 81st place with a (83-87) 170. Betsy Beaver is 86th at (80-91) 171. Moe's two-day total is (87-91) 178 and Brooke Dillehay has carded  a (89-98)187.

Trevecca should have one of the earlier tee times for Thursday's third round. To advance to Friday's final round the team would need to be in the top 17 teams. Also, any individual player in the top 40 can continue playing on Friday.

Trevecca coach Michael Johnson is pleased with his teams effort considering the weather conditions, "Lots of people complain about the weather but nobody does anything about it..."

"I don't know how many times I said that, mostly referring to a classic scene from Andy Griffith, but today there were a lot of folks complaining about the weather. Obviously, everybody has to play in the same conditions, although in Tuesday's play the teams who went out early had absolutely perfect scoring conditions. Those teams played in the afternoon today, and we're still waiting to see how they fare in more demanding weather."

"Wind-gusts of 40 mph or more will obviously take a toll on you, particularly when there is virtually never a time when the winds are less that 25-30 mph. Over the course of a round, it just takes so much out of you as a player. I'm very proud of the team for fighting through it today, but I know they feel like they could've done a little better."

"Yesterday (Tuesday) I said that we didn't shoot ourselves out of contention to make the cut (top-17 teams after Thursday's third round), but I'm not so sure now. We will probably drop a spot or two and the teams in that 17-20 range may be out of reach by the time we take the course tomorrow (Thursday). But I promise you this... My team will play their hearts out and we'll see where that takes us."

Oklahoma City is the team leader after the second day of play. The Stars have a team total of (302-311) 613. They have a 17 stroke lead on second place British Columbia. First round leader Adriana Niclotti of Cal Baptist is still the overall individual leader with a (71-78) 149. She has a one stroke lead on Oklahoma City's Sydney Cox who has a (77-73) 150.

Live scoring is available through the tournament website.
