NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca baseball coach Jonathan Burton is pleased to announce the signing of Mark Hewitt from Cypress Community College for the 2009-2010 season.

Hewitt, a 6'1" outfielder from Bothell, Washington, joins the Trojans for his junior season, coming off an impressive year for Chargers.

He hit .290 for the year, reaching base at a .405 clip, and leading the Chargers to a final national ranking of 36th. He earned the Cypress College Presidential Award for academics.

He played his freshman year at Skagit Valley College, hitting .305 for the Cardinals and posting an on-base percentage of .406. Skagit finished second in the State.

Speaking about the Signing, Coach Burton remarked, "To get an outfielder of Mark's caliber is a big boost for us. He has the potential to be one of our better offensive leaders after playing in a great program like Cypress CC. There he competed for a starting spot behind three major division one players. Mark will be a big threat for us offensively and will solidify the middle of our order with power from the left side."

"Cypress plays in a great league, with solid pitching and defense. There is no question he will be ready to compete at a high level in our conference."

In high school Hewitt hit .340 his senior year with a .455 on base percentage. He was a King County All-Star and earned a WIAA Academic Award designation.
