NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca women's golfer Ashley Birdwell placed second in the 2009 James H. Fyke Ladies Municipal Amateur Golf Championship this weekend. Birdwell, who will begin her sophomore season at Trevecca in a couple of weeks, was third in last year's event.
Birdwell, the reigning TranSouth Player of the Year, shot a even par 72 on the first day and added a one under par 71 on the second day of the tournament. Her two day total of 143 was six strokes better than her effort last season.
Leigh Wilkins, who finished her career at MTSU in the spring, posted a 133 to win the 78-player field - her third-consecutive Muni victory.
The first round was played at Ted Rhodes Golf Course and the second round was played at McCabe Golf Course.
