NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Trevecca's Women Golf Team teed off the fall season today participating in the Walsh Invitational at The Sanctuary Golf Club in North Canton, Ohio. The course, built in 2002, is a Par 71 and covers 6,109 total yards. There are 59 golfers spreading across 10 teams taking part in the two round invitational event hosted by Walsh University.

For day one the Trojans put up a 341 score for round one putting them in second place and 12 strokes down from leader Walsh University (329).  Right behind Trevecca in third is Ohio Dominican University (345), Ohio Northern University fourth (353), University of Northwestern Ohio fifth (362), Denison University sixth (387), Malone University seventh (390), Urbana University eighth (394), Lake Erie College ninth (421), and Notre Dame College tenth (536).

Leading the way and invitational for the five player Trojan squad was Betsy Beaver shooting a round one low 79 (+8). Beaver led all golfers with 10 pars for the round. Tied for second place is former TranSouth Freshman of the Year Ashley Birdwell scoring an 81 (+10) and having two birdies. Alyssa Moe, T-19th, shot a 90 for the round and had better back nine then front nine (46-44). Freshman Whitney Phillips (T-21) and Maddie Privott (T-30) rounded up the group shooting a 91 and 93 respectively.

Coach Johnson was happy with the team's overall performance stating, "we played pretty well for the first round of the new year, had some struggles on the greens but hit the ball very well on a tough course."

The Trojans will conclude their Ohio visit with final round action tomorrow at 8 a.m. cst.
