NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca men's basketball team opened the season with a 91-62 exhibition loss at NCAA Division 1 Tennessee State on Tuesday.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 27-9 lead and shot 55 percent (34-of-62) overall to defeat Trevecca.

The Trojans were led by Michael France's 6-of-14 from the field for 15 points with Matthew Elliott and JP Nyadaro each scoring 13 points. Elliott added eight rebounds to lead the team. Keith Morris led the team in assists with four. Nyadaro added six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and three steals.

The Tigers received 20-point performances from junior Josh Sain and freshman Jacquan Nobles.

Sain scored a game-high 21 points, connecting 8-of-14 from the floor, including 2-of-5 from three-point range. He also added four assists and three steals.

Nobles followed with 20 points, hitting 6-of-10 from the floor while connecting 4-of-6 from behind the arch.

Both Sain and Nobles were perfect from the free-throw line with Sain going 3-of-3 and Nobles shooting 4-of-4.

Defensively, TSU racked up 11 steals while out rebounding TNU, 34-27.

The Trojans narrowed the Tigers' lead in the first half, 37-22, after scoring nine straight points with 5:08 remaining. However, Sain's eight points pushed the Tigers' momentum for the half time lead, 45-22.

In the second half, TSU held their largest point margin of the night at the 6:14 mark, holding an 82-42 advantage. TNU's 15-3 run with less than four minutes remaining chipped away at the Tigers' gigantic lead but could not recover from the large deficit early in the game.

Trevecca will officially open the season on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. when they host Point Loma Nazarene University for Homecoming. The SeaLions defeated Trevecca 57-51 at PLNU's Homecoming last year, on the way to a 15-16 season. Point Loma will open their season on Friday, November 6 at Fisk University in Nashville.
