NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca (1-0) men's basketball team opened the season with a 57-55 win over Point Loma Nazarene University on Homecoming.
 
Trevecca started out down 9-0 and didn't scratch the scoreboard until newcomer Keith Morris hit a three-point basket with 11:32 on the first half clock. Trevecca eventually rallied to take a 29-23 lead at halftime.
 
In the second half the SeaLions rallied to tie the game at 36 with 11:51 remaining. Point Loma pulled ahead 42-40 with 9:26 to go and would hold the lead until Matthew Elliott sank a long range three-pointer with 2:06 to go. The three-pointer gave Trevecca a 54-52 lead. Both teams missed several good opportunities to score over the final two minutes, but they combined for only six points and the Trojans escaped with the win.
 
Matthew Elliott led Trevecca with 24 points after hitting 5-of-6 from beyond the arc and 9-of-10 from the foul line. Michael France added 14 points with 2-of-4 shooting from three-point range. France grabbed six rebounds, had two assists, a block, and two steals. Morris scored seven and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. The sophomore transfer from Lambuth added three assists and a team-high four steals. Marquise Rudolph, a freshmen from Clarksville, led the team with four assists.
 
As a team Trevecca shot 36.5%  (19-52) from the field, 44.0 % (8-18) from three-point range, and 58.0% (11-19) from the foul line. Point Loma won the battle of the boards 51-31. The SeaLions were held to 36.5% (20-58) from the field, 7.1% (1-14) from three-point range, and 58% (14-24) from the foul line. Trevecca outscored Point Loma 24-11 in points scored off of turnovers, but Point Loma had the advantage in points in the paint (34-12), second chance points (17-2), and bench scoring (13-6). The SeaLions outscored the Trojans 32-28 in the second half.
 
Trevecca will host the Trevecca Classic on November 13-14 at Moore Gym. The Trojans will play Logan Chiropractic on Friday, November 13 at 8 p.m. and then Michigan-Dearborn (1-1) on Saturday, November 14 at 6 p.m.
