NASHVILLE, Tenn. -  #2 Seeded Trevecca (25-12) fell in a five-set thriller to #1 Seed Freed-Hardeman (22-12) in the Winners Bracket Championship in the 2009 TranSouth Volleyball Tournament. FHU won 25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 15-8.
 
Freed looked unstoppable in the first two sets, but the Trojans rallied to take the next two setting up just the second five-set match of the tournament. The teams sparred early, but with Trevecca leading 7-6 the Lions pulled away to take a 10-7 lead and Trevecca couldn't close the gap.
 
Kaley Ward had 16 kills for Trevecca. Brooke Cannon had 24 assists and Halley Wiggins 22. Jessica Hoold had 11 kills and 16 digs. Kimi Coffey and Teegan Hunziker had 15 digs apiece.
 
Freed had dominating attack percentages in the first two sets. In set one they had a .286 attack percentage and .386 in the second. After falling off in the next two sets the Lions had a .500 attack percentage in the fifth set. Diana Silva had 23 kills and a .327 personal attack percentage. Nataly Gutierrez had 19 kills and a .405 attack percentage. Karim Raymond had 19 digs and Amber Turner had 54 assists.
 
Trevecca will play at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday against the winner of Tuesday's 9:30 p.m. match between #4 Seed Union and #5 Seed Cumberland. Freed advances to the first championship match at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They will play the winner of Wednesday's 9:30 a.m. match. Whoever wins the 9:30 a.m. match will need to beat Freed twice to win the tournament. One win by Freed gives the Lions the tournament championship. 
 
The TranSouth Conference Tournament (November 9, 10, 11) is being held at Trevecca's Moore Gym.
