#2 Seeded Trevecca (25-13) fell in a five-set match to #4 Seed Union University. The Bulldogs defeated Trevecca 16-25, 25-10, 25-17, 26-28,
11-15.
Union, the defending
tournament champion, lost in the opening round of the tournament before
winning four in a row to reach the championship round.
The
Bulldogs jumped out with a 25-16 first set victory on the strength of a
.379 attack percentage. They did so with 11 kills and no
errors in 29 attempts.
Trevecca responded with an equally dominating performance in set two. TNU had a .250 attack percentage (13-5-32) and won 25-10.
Set three was closer, but Trevecca still dominated as Union had a .000 attack percentage (7-7-38).
UU's Kelsey Duling had 13 kills while Katie Adams had 39 assists. Kacie Ritter had three service aces
and Marcela Madeira had 14 kids and 11 kills.
Jennifer Peterson (13),
Kaley Ward (12), Hunziker (11), and Kristen Evans (10) all had
double-figure kills. Brooke Cannon (27) and Haley Wiggins (25) led the
team in assists. Hunziker and White each had 22 digs.
Trevecca's season ends with
a 25-13 overall record. This marks the 10th time the TNU volleyball
program has produced a 20-win season.
Coach
Jayme
Crowley has a 47-24 overall record now following her second season at
the helm of the Trojan program. Crowley has produced an impressive 20-8
TranSouth record and has a 6-4
postseason record.
The senior class (Kaley Ward, Kimi Coffey, Jessica Hood, and Rachel Spotten) have produced a 93-49 overall
record, 44-19 TranSouth record, and were 11-9 in postseason play. The seniors never finished below third in TranSouth play.
