NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca (6-1) men's basketball team defeated NAIA No. 22 MidAmerica Nazarene (4-4) in the opener of the Fall Nazarene Classic @ Trevecca.


Trevecca opened the game up 8-2, but the game would see numerous runs by both teams. MidAmerica had the next run, a 8-0 run that put them up 10-8. Trevecca, of course, returned the favor with a 10-0 run that put the Trojans up 18-10 with 13:32 to go in the half. After more smaller runs the remainder of the half, Trevecca led 35-31 with 1:48 to go. MNU finished the half with a 9-3 run and held a 40-38 lead.

Trevecca opened the second half with a 11-4 run that put the Trojans up 49-44. The Pioneers answered with a 12-0 run to go up 56-49 with 12:38 to go. The Pioneers were close to opening a wider gap, but the Trojans hit several key baskets to hold the MNU lead at seven points (64-57) at teh 8:42 mark. Trevecca began their final rally with a 14-2 run that pulled the Trojans ahead 71-66 with 4:37 to go. Though MNU cut the TNU lead to just one point on two more occassions, the Trojans would never give up the lead again.

Trevecca had four players who scored in double figures including two over the 20 point mark. Keith Morris scored 21 points and added eight rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. Morris, a sophomore transfer from Lambuth University, was 9-12 from the field. Matthew Elliott led the team with 25 points after hitting 7-of-9 from the field and was 11-of-14 at the foul line. Elliott added six rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Michael France (13) and Marquise Rudolph (10) also hit double figure scoring. J.P. Nyadaro scored eight and had five rebounds.

As a team Trevecca shot 56% (28-50) from the field, 31% (4-13) from beyond the arch, and 65% (20-31) from the foul line. MNU out rebounded TNU 40-31.

Saturday the Trojans face #RV Southern Nazarene (5-1) at 4 p.m. SNU defeated ONU 62-52 on Friday. At 2 p.m. on Saturday MidAmerica Nazarene will play Olivet Nazarene.

Trevecca will provide live audio, video, and statistics of both games on Saturday.
