NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - NAIA No. 13 Trevecca (9-4, 1-0) picked up a nice win over
Mid-Continent University (7-8, 0-1) 87-74 in the first TranSouth
Athletic Conference game of the year for both teams.
The
Cougars took a 19-13 lead with 12:36 left on the first half clock.
Trevecca answered with a 16-3 run to go up 29-22 with 7:47 remaining.
MCU tied the game at 29, but Trevecca held a 39-38 halftime lead.
Trevecca
led 47-45 wtih 17:22 remaining, but Mid-Continent produced a 10-2 run
to take a 55-49 lead with 13:47 remaining. The Trojans had the answer
with a game-deciding 22-8 run that put the Trojans up for good at
71-63. The 13-point (87-74) final score was Trevecca's largest lead of
the game.
Four
Trojans scored in double figures. Michael France (23) lead the way
while Keith Morris (18), Marquise Rudolph (18), and Matthew Elliott
(14) joined him. Morris led the team in rebounds with five as both
teams tallied 32. Peyton Henry, Elliott, and Morris all had three
assists. JP Nydaro had three blocks, nine points, and five rebounds.
France and Rudolph had two steals apiece.
As
a team the Trojans shot 32-52 (61%) from the field, 9-18 (50%) from
3-point range, and 14-25 (56%) from the foul line. The team scorched
the nets in the second half for 71% (17-24).
Kenny Thomas led Mid-Continent with 24 points, 18 of those came in the first half when he shot 9-9 from the field.
