BATESVILLE, Ark. -The Trevecca Trojans (13-5, 5-1) fell behind in the first half, trailed most of the night, but thanks to 28 points from Matthew Elliott and seven straight points from Michael France in the final minutes, were able to pull out a 75-69 victory over the Lyon College Scots (5-12, 1-4).
The TNU win combined with Union's loss at Cumberland places the Trojans back in a first place tie with the Bulldogs atop the TranSouth standings.
The Trojans trailed by eight at the half, 33-25, and were down 55-41 with 11:41 left in the contest. Trevecca rallied, going on a 21-6 run to take a 62-61 lead with 5:01 to play. The game was tied at 62 with less then three minutes to play before Michael France scored the next seven Trevecca points - on a 3-pointer, a steal and a layup, and a jumper from just inside the 3-point line - to put the Trojans up 69-62 with 1:29 left and they never looked back on the way to the victory.
In addition to Elliott's 28, Marquise Rudolph added 16 points and France chipped in with 15. James Jackson led the Scots with 15 points and Andy Lee added 11.
It was the 25th meeting in the series between the two schools. Trevecca holds a 14-11 advantage and has won six of the last seven meetings.
The Trojans return to action Monday night, as they travel across town to face Fisk University. Game time is 8 p.m.
