NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Trojans (17-7, 8-3
TranSouth), #RV in this week's NAIA men's Division I basketball poll,
jumped out to an early lead and pulled away late for a 93-78 win over
Bethel University (10-14, 2-8 TranSouth) Thursday night at Moore Gym.
The Trojans scored the first eight points of the
game, and led 18-7, but Bethel would work its way back to within 22-21
with 4:29 left in the half. The Trojans scored eight straight points and
15 of the final 21 points of the half to take a 37-27 lead into the
locker room. The Trojans maintained a comfortable cushion for much of
the second half, shooting nearly 63% from the field after the break.
Michael
France led the Trojans with 25 points, all in the second half, and
added seven rebounds, five steals, and three assists. Marquise Rudolph
added 24---18 in the first half---along with five assists and four
rebounds, and Keith Morris chipped in 20 points, six rebounds, and four
blocks. Andre Crudup of Bethel led all scorers with 27 points.
For
the game, the Trojans shot 48% (32-67), including 6-18 from 3-point
range (33%), and made 23 of 34 free throws (68%). The Wildcats made 30
of 62 shots (48%), which included 3-11 from 3-point range (27%), and
knocked down 15 of 23 free throws (65%).
Trevecca has won the last 17
meetings in the series with Bethel and hold a 46-30 advantage in the
all-time series.
Trevecca will travel to Cumberland
(9-14, 6-4 TranSouth) Saturday to face the Bulldogs. Game time is 4
p.m.
