NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - Trevecca (0-1), recieving votes for the preseason NAIA Baseball
Top 25, fell in its season opener to #4 Southern Tech (4-0) 11-5 at
Jackson Field. The two teams will play a double header beginning at
Noon on Saturday.
Trevecca
went Tim Dunn (0-1), a First Team NAIA All-American, to the mound
against the hornets David Harden (2-0). Harden, who was 11-2 last year,
held the Trojans in check with six strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work.
Harden walked five while allowing just three hits, two runs, and one
earned run on the day.
Dunn
allowed six hits and walked three in his five innings of work. The
TranSouth Player of the Year allowed two unearned runs and struck out
five Hornets. It was the first loss in his Trojan career. Dunn was 12-0
last year.
Southern
Tech scored first with two unearned runs in the second inning. In the
sixth, two more unearned runs were scored by the 2009 NAIA World Series
participants. Trevecca scored their first two runs in the bottom of the
sixth. The Hornets added two in the seventh and five in the eighth
inning. Trevecca scored three in the bottom of the ninth. Trevecca had
five runs, five hits, and seven errors. Southern Tech scored their 11
runs on nine hits and had one error. Trevecca left eight runners on
base.
Mark
Hewitt was 1-2 with a run scored, two RBI, two walks, a double, and a
stolen base. Chase Birdwell was 1-5 with a run scored, an RBI, and a
double. Edwin Borbon had a stolen base and a walk.
