NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca Trojans (18-8, 9-4 TranSouth), #RV in this week's NAIA men's Division I basketball poll, defeated Lyon College (5-20, 1-12 TranSouth) 94-63 at Moore Gym on Monday night. The game was moved up two hours due to weather concerns.
Lyon took their first and only lead (6-5) with 17:42 to go in the first half. Lyon did keep it close and tied the score at 21 with 11:14 remaining in the half. Trevecca pulled ahead 31-23 with a 10-2 run at the 7:56 mark. Neither team would score again until Matthew Elliott put the Trojans up 34-23 with a 3-pointer at the 4:27 mark. Trevecca led 42-35 at the break.
With 18:12 to go in the game Lyon had cut the Trojan lead to four points at 47-43. When Michael France hit field goal at the 14:19 mark, he capped a 23-5 run that sealed the victory. Trevecca led a 17-point lead. Lyon cut the lead to 14-points (73-59) with 7:44 to go, but Trevecca closed the game on a 21-4 run for the 94-63 victory.
Trevecca narrowly missed having three players with at least 20 points. Marquise Rudolph had a career-high 25 points and also topped the team with nine assists and five turnovers. Matthew Elliott scored 20 and Michael France had 19. Elliott and France each added five rebounds, five assists, and a steal.
Trevecca hit 61% (36-59) from the field, 54% (12-22) from 3-point ranged, and 42% (10-24) from the foul line. Lyon had a 35-33 advantage in rebounding. Trevecca had 16 steals and only 15 turnovers. James Jackson led Lyon with 14 points. Trevecca had a 19-0 advantage on fast break baskets, 36-6 on points off turnover, 42-26 on points scored in the paint, and 19-10 in bench scoring.
Trevecca will visit No. 20 Freed-Hardeman (17-8, 10-2 TranSouth) on Thursday at 8 p.m.
