NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Trevecca (0-4), receiving votes for the preseason NAIA Baseball Top 25, saw visiting Indiana-Southeast (1-0) take an 8-7 decision at Jackson Field on Thursday afternoon. The game was orginally scheduled for Tuesday, February 16.
IUSE took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the second. Trevecca answered with their first run in the third. The Grenadiers took a brief 1-run lead in the fifth, but the Trojans answered with four in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-2 lead.
Chase Birdwell started the run with a 1-out walk. Trae Weiss singled and Mark Hewitt tripled and drove in Birdwell and Weiss. Brad Gooch followed with a triple that scored Hewitt. Zach Sutton followed with a double that scored Gooch.
IUSE answered with five in the top of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. Trevecca made it a 7-6 with a run in the sixth and tied the game at 7-7 with another run in the seventh. IUSE scored the deciding run in the top of the ninth.
For IUSE they scored eight runs on 10 hits and had no errors. Trevecca scored seven runs on 12 hits and had two errors. For Trevecca, Hewitt was 3-5 with two RBI, a run, and an RBI. Trae Weiss was 2-3 with two RBI, a walk, and a run scored.
Chris Sutherland (0-1) took the loss with 2.2 innings of work. Codi Webb started and lasted just 1.1 inning with six walks and allowed an earned run.
Trevecca has changed the location for this weekend's series with No. 23 Auburn Montgomery. Trevecca will travel to play at AUM on Friday and Saturday.
Friday's scheduled calls for a nine-inning game at 2 p.m. and Saturday will see a Noon double header.
