HENDERSON, Tenn. No. 13 Trevecca (18-8, 10-4 TranSouth) lost at No. 15 Freed-Hardeman (21-5, 9-4 TranSouth) on Thursday night. The teams split the season series, with each team winning at home, and Freed-Hardeman now leads the all-time series 20-12.
Trevecca took an early 6-2 lead, before the Lions' Hannah Parsley knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to give Freed-Hardeman an 8-6 lead. But the Trojans answered with a 10-2 run of their own---capped off by back-to-back 3-pointers by K.C. Van Atta---to take a 16-10 lead with 9:55 left in the first half. Trevecca's largest lead of the night came with 6:11 to play in the half, as Christian Gibson's 3-pointer gave the Trojans a 22-15 advantage. The Trojans took a 30-26 lead into the locker room, thanks in large part to a 25-14 edge on the boards.
But after a quick bucket by Paige McFarlin to start the second half, FHU went on an 11-0 run to take a 37-32 lead and the Lions would never trail again. The Trojans cut it to one, at 40-39, with 13:20 to play, but a 6-0 run by the Lions pushed the lead back to seven with 11:26 left. From there, the Lions kept Trevecca at bay with interior scoring and free throw shooting, knocking down six free throws in the final minute for the final margin.
Paige McFarlin led the Trojans with 12 points, and added seven rebounds. The only other Trojan in double figures was Christian Gibson, who scored 10 points before fouling out in the final minute. Freed-Hardeman's Meribeth Boehler led all scorers with 16 points.
The Trojans return to Moore Gym on Saturday to face Fisk (4-17) at 2pm.
