NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Trevecca softball team (2-0) opened the season with a pair of wins over Indiana Wesleyan University (2-0) 4-3 and 3-2. Both games were decided on game-ending home solo home runs. Both games were won on seventh inning walk-off home runs by the Trojans. The Trojans blasted six home runs in the double-header. Monica West and Karli Rush each hit two.

In game one, Trevecca fell behind 2-0 when IWU scored two unearned runs in the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the second Trevecca scored its first run of the year when Monica West, a transfer from Shorter College, drove a 2-1 pitch nearly to the Trevecca soccer field in straight away center. The visitors struck again with a run in the top of the fifth and led 3-1. Trevecca tied the game in the bottom of the fifth after Kelsey Lantrip reached on a walk and scored on a Karli Rush two-run homer. Neither team scored again until Karli Rush led off the seventh inning with a solo home run over the left field fence.

Riley Mashburn (1-0) allowed six hits, four walks, one earned run while striking out nine IWU batters. Rush was 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Monica West was 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Trevecca scored their four runs on eight hits and had two errors. IWU scored three runs on six hits and had two errors. Erin Moeller (0-1) took the loss in relief. Moeller allowed three hits in 1.2 innings pitched and gave up the winning run.

In the second game, Trevecca jumped out to a one run lead as Kelsey Lantrip, a transfer from Central Alabama Community College, opened the bottom of the first by driving a 1-2 pitch over the center field fence. In the bottom of the fourth, the Troajns struck again on a Monica West opposite field home run. Indiana Wesleyan tied the game with two runs in the top of the fifth. Neither team scored again, until deja vu struck in the bottom of the seventh. Trevecca freshman Breanna Zeis hit her first collegiate home run, a solo game-winning home run on a 3-1 pitch to lead off the bottom of the seventh.

Lauren Baker (1-0) pitched the complete game allowing five hits, two runs, three walks and struck out 11 IWU batters. Lantrip was 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Katie Hall (0-1) took the loss for Indiana Wesleyan.

Trevecca will play an exhibition game with Columbia State on Saturday before traveling to NCAA D2 power North Alabama on Wednesday, February 23 at 3 p.m. Trevecca returns home for a 4 p.m. double header on Thursday, February 25 against Covenant College.
