NASHVILLE,
Tenn. - NAIA No. 23 Trevecca (20-9, 10-5 TranSouth) lost on Senior
Night 69-58 to #11 Union University (23-7, 14-2 TranSouth) Thursday
night at Moore Gym. Union now leads the all-time series 48-25.
With
Matthew Elliott playing his final regular season game at home, the
Trojans took an early lead but couldn't make it stand up in losing for
the fifth straight time to the Bulldogs. The Trojans scored the first
four points of the game and led throughout much of the first half, but
Union hung around and finally moved ahead 22-21 with :34 left in the
first half and would never trail again. A 24-22 Union
halftime lead
quickly grew to eight points in the first 3:31 of the second half, and
the Trojans would never seriously threaten again, trailing by 8-10
points for the majority of the second half.
Trevecca shot only
34% (22-64), including just 26% from 3-point range (5-19), and made
just 9-16 free throws (56%). Union shot 41% (24-59), but managed only
4-17 (24%) from 3-point range, and made 17-27 free throws (63%).
Michael
France led the Trojans with 18 points, while Matthew Elliott chipped in
with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Trojans wrap up the regular season
Saturday afternoon at Martin Methodist (18-11, 6-9). Game time is 4pm.
